Mezcal is by far one of my favorites in terms of alcohol. It’s strong and smoky flavor creates such a yummy taste in every cocktail I’ve made with it. If you’ve never had it I highly recommend trying it out. But, if you have tried it and haven’t enjoyed it that much, just use tequila reposado for this mango basil goodness!
PRO TIP: When you’re gathering your limes for your drink go for the tender yellowing limes! NOT the bright green hard limes. The yellowing ones are full of juice and are the ripest!
I have found that the Ataulfo mango works best for this recipe! They’re such a sweet variety of mango and I find them less fibrous and more sweet than the larger variety you find at the store. If you’ve ever had mango sticky rice this is the type of mango they tend to use!
Mezcal Cocktail With Mango & Basil
Ingredients:
- 1 oz ataulfo mango puree
- handful of thai basil leaves muddled
- 1 oz lime juice
- .5 oz agave
- 2 oz mezcal (or sub tequila reposado)
- handful of ice
Instructions:
- Start by pureeing your mango by peeling and removing the seed in the middle. Add the mango meat to a high speed blender or food processor. Blitz until it's smooth. Set aside.
- Add thai basil to your shaker and muddle until fragrant (about 10 seconds).
- Add your mango puree along with your lime, agave, and mezcal. Top it off with a handful of ice cubes and shake for about 20 seconds. (Shake until your hands can't take the cold any longer!).
- Strain into a glass filled with ice and add a basil leaf and slice of lime for a garnish. Voila! Happy Friday you guys :)
